smoking from cold

hi peeps i am new on here s i would like to say hello first before i start asking for techy help lol,
i have a 53 plate rover 25 diesel, on start up when cold it diesel smokes for about 200 yards up the road then clears and runs perfect all day , i though it might be a leaking injector so i got another 4 and its made no difference appart from it seem to be putting more fuel in than before, i plugged a snap on code reader on it and it came up with 2 faults
code p1218 needle motion sensor and p1402 undocumented code

please help and thanks in advance

Needle motion sensor? Think that might be the lift sensor on #1 injector, check it's plugged in and the wiring isn't chafed, tends to be a common problem.

What type of injectors did you put in? injectors out of a 25/45? or out of a 200/400/600? they are different, the earlier injectors will flow more fuel in a 25.

Not without a remap I'm afriad! You can always try and increase the air going in a bit by increasing the boost pressure though, which can even things up.

its white/grey mate and it misses on a cylinder when you start it and then runs fine after a couple off revs , some one said it may have a bent conrod but it runs great as soon as it starts to warm up

Your 45 injectors sound like they've seen better days, they should be exactly the same as 25 ones. If you've put the older SDi type injectors in though this would explain the power and the smoke.

If they are definitely 45 injectors, it could be that they're quite worn, so I would expect some smoke for a while on a cold engine.

It could be a glow plug issue that's causing the poor combustion on a cold start.

Wouldn't a bent rod cause poor running for more than 200 yards, and maybe some roughness in the engine? I'm no engine mechanical expert, just curious.

Send a message via MSN to E_T_V
Other end is on a metal bracket next to the injection pump for the injector wire to plug in to.
