Rover 214 wont start

Hi,

I have a Rover 214, 1997. Basically it wont start. I've changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, ht leads, crank sensor and nothing makes any difference. it varies from not starting at all to starting then cutting out after a few seconds. I've had 3 different people look at it. one suggested the ecu, we got a second hand one but made no difference. someone from the garage said a new ecu is no good unless you have immobiliser box and key fob to match.

They have suggested getting an auto elecy to try and bypass the immoboliser. any suggestions?

i live in the middle of nowhere and not having a car is a nightmare! thanks

hi all i need help with my gals car...

she broke the fob trying to change the battery, and i need the car tomorrow midday...
i have looked around and found bits and pieces of info on this... like a relay, and the key in the door if u have the code etc...

i have a new fob coming from ebay in 2-3 days, but the immobilser is stuck on, so according to everything i have read, i cant add a new fob until the immobilser is off...

how do i deactivate the emmobilser when i dont have the emergency code(i got the car for her for £100 with a broken gearbox, its a cheap run around) so dont really have any intention on spending loads of cash for reprogramming and sending off ecu's etc...

its a R reg 214i 5dr hatch... and time is a big problem, i need to get to work tomor 100miles away(and my car is awaiting a new starter, not a very lucky week so far...lol)...

hope this email makes sense, im a bit wired after spending the last 6 hrs reading everything about this silly alarm system rover have...

i also seen that no1 will say over a fourm how to sort this with the relay so please PM me...

The ECU and immobilizer are tied together, you cannot start the car without a correctly functioning fob to disable it.

Even if you do buy a new fob, it still needs reprogramming to match your cars immobilizer.

The key code only allows you to turn off the alarm and enter the car, not start it up.
