my first instinct was a nakered motor, but if thats ok i'm not sure, the mechanism itself is pretty simple it must be wiering/switch if its not the motor may be worth getting home and wipping the door card off (its not hard and CJJ wrote a how to so you can't go wrong) that way you can see what the window is doing inside the door be carful if your putting your hand inside the door tho, could easily get trapped by a moving windnow!

Hi I took the Door card off and had a look the right sideof the door (the easily visible bit on the inside) appeared to be ok the window moved down about 4 " then I get the grinding and the window judders but won't go down any further. It sounds like the grinding is coming from the left side of the door behing where the speaker would be but it's hard to get a clear view due the the door metal on the speaker side of the door. I managed to get the windowback up by pressing the button and physically pulling up the window at the same time. However after pulling it up it immediatley drops down about 1cm so there is a 1cm gap around the door seal a lovely gap for the rain in a usually water tight tf lol. So at the minute I'm not using the driver side window at all- not good can anyone help me out with advice or has anyone had something similar happen ifso what was the fix and how much will it set me back also is it best to take it to an mg specialist or will any garage be able to sort it ?

Dont know but i jsut spent two hours inisde the doors. behind where the speaker is is the motor, so its either broken or seized , probably.
Cant say for sure though, so hopefully someone will come along (of and my windows are no held up with wood and a wooden hammer handle :ekk: |

I had a similar thing with mine. I thought it must be the motor so dismantled everything and refitted a new motor on to the existing mechanism. This was not that difficult but fiddly and time consuming. I then found it still did not work properly. I tried swapping the switches over left to right and found it was the switch!
You can do this very easily by pulling back the trim where the switches are and pulling off the connector and swapping them over. I strongly recommend you try this first as it is a five minute job. I wish I had! If you need a switch they are usually a fiver on ebay. good luck and I hope it's the switch |
