Hi All

Had a search, can not find an answer....

The foil heatshield on the CDT - what does it protect ?

Reason I ask is mine has just got mangled and I was wondering what would happen if I just removed it ?

I don't think it makes that much difference whether you have it on or not. I had the flexi pipe changed on my car a few months ago and after they repaired it I was getting this terrible metal-on-metal noise. It turned out to be the heat shield vibrating against the exhaust as it was pushed on too close. In the garage they told me it wouldn't make a difference to take it off completely. So, I don't think it's worth stressing about if it's mangled.

The heatshield is exactly that. It shields the floor against heat radiated from the blistering hot catalyst and exhaust system. The temperature of the cab will be affected very slightly I suppose. I guess the underseal coating may suffer heat effects over the long term, but most cars manage without this refinement. It's primarily a refinement, like many aspects of these fine machines.

That is why we like the 75.

I was trying hard to think if there was anything that might be upset by the heat eg Fuel tank ( but I know thats under the seat), brake pipe etc..
